The fashion industry in general has a bad reputation for creating pollution and waste. However, there are some clothing companies that care about the environment, their factories, their workers and their customers. Here are three of the best eco-friendly clothing brands. Basic Organics produces long-lasting clothing at good prices. It uses materials that don’t damage the environment. It uses organic cotton, recycled nylon and recycled wool as well as other eco- friendly materials. Its factories are kind to the environment and its workers have good working conditions and fair pay. Every item of clothing has a label that gives details about its carbon footprint and 1% of every purchase goes to an environmental charity. Stella McCartney is a famous designer label, but the environment is very important to the company. None of its products use leather, feathers, fur or animal skin. It uses a fake leather from mushrooms and a fake fur that is plant-based. The company is a member of the Ethical Trading Initiative which cares about workers’ rights and it works with lots of small businesses in Europe. Stella McCartney makes clothes with little waste and in every item of clothing the labels have care instructions to help you make the item last longer and reduce your carbon footprint. Eileen Fisher makes clothes that are perfect for the office and the conference room. The company supports women’s rights and climate action. It runs programmes called ‘Renew’ and ‘Waste No More’ that take back used or unsold clothes and resell or remake them into new clothes. So far, the programmes have taken back 1.4 million items of clothing. © Leirilivro & Express Publishing PHOTOCOPIABLE 2 Digi Up 8.º ano Vocabulary B. Label the pictures. C.
