TYPE 0TYPE 0 Used to make statements about the real world, and
often refers to general truths, such as scientific facts.

Structure: If + (simple present), (simple present)

TYPE 1TYPE 1 Refers to a possible condition and its probable result.
These sentences are based on facts, and they are used
to make statements about the real world, and about
particular situations. 
If John is late again, his boss will fire him.
Structure: If + (simple present), (future)
If it rain tomorrow, we won’t go to the park.
TYPE 2TYPE 2 Refers to an unlikely or hypothetical condition and its
probable result.
If I were you, I would give up smoking.
Structure: If + (simple past), (would / could + verb)
If the weather wasn't so bad, we could go to the park.
TYPE 3TYPE 3 This is the way we imagine how things could have been
different in the past. If something had been different,
something else would have happened. Notice that both
the condition and the result are impossible now. 
You would have passed your exam if you had worked harder.
Structure: If + (past perfect), (would have + past participle)
 If it had rained, we would have canceled the concert.
