Present Perfect
Task 1: Discuss the questions below and then read the explanation about
present perfect:
● Have you ever lived in other cities?
● Have you ever hurt or broken some part of your body?
● Have you ever been in a relationship?
● Have you ever visited an English-speaking country?
The present perfect is used to talk about past actions or situations that have a
connection with the present. It is formed from the verb have + past participle, e.g.
I’ve (= I have) never met him before.
1)We often use the present perfect to give ‘new’ information, for examplewhen
wewant to report an event that happened a short time ago:
● Ouch! I’ve hurt my leg.
● Has Michael arrived yet?
● Spain has won the World Cup!
HAVE - HAS
I, you, we, they - have
She, he,it - has
2)We use the present perfect to talk about a repeated past event thatmay
happen again in the future:
● Brazil has won the World Cup five times.
● The doctor has saved many lives.
When there is no possibility that the event will happen again in the future, we use
the past simple:
● The English king Henry VIII got married six times.
3)We often use the present perfect to talk about a situation that began in the
past and continues up to the present or future. It is often usedwith time
expressions such as since, for, never, etc.:
● I’ve been married for nearly ten years.
● John hasn’t lived alone since 2001.
4)We often use the present perfect to talk about a past event that has a
connectionwith the present:
● Look! Masa has had a haircut! (His hair is different now.)
● Can I borrow yours? (My dictionary is at home at the moment.)
NOTE: If we saywhen something happened in the past, we cannot use the
present perfect. We use the past simple:
● Yesterday, I forgot my book at home, so I borrowed one from a classmate.

Ashlie: Of course I am. It was Grandma’s. It reminds me of her.
É claro que vou. Era da vovó. Me faz lembrar (me lembra) dela.

Ashlie: Ah, OK - that’s rubbish.
Ah, ok - aquilo é tralha(lixo).
Stephen: And this? Rubbish?
E isso? Lixo?

Ah, espere! Essa é a Annabel, que eu te falei. Eu a tenho desde os 6 anos. Olha, se
você quiser ser útil (se você quiser ajudar), você pode levar essas caixas lá pra
van.
Stephen: Alright, alright… This is really heavy. You’ve definitely got too much stuff!
Tudo bem, tudo bem… Isso é muito pesado. Você defenitivamente temmuitas
coisas!
…..
Ashlie: Great! That’s it. All packed up.
