Cover Letter Dear Editor of the Brazilian Journal of Physical Therapy (BJPT), • The objective and approach of your research The heterogeneity of information known so far has not yet allowed making concise recommendations and protocols for the elaboration of a physical exercise (PE) program for patients with Kidney Failure (ESRD), especially among those undergoing hemodialysis (HD). Thus, this study aims to perform a literature review on the effect of PE on patients with kidney failure, describing its protocols and clinical outcomes in order to guide future interventions for this population. • Any novel contributions reported In conclusion, the survey of information indicates lack of standardization of protocols that specify the PE training modality, moment, frequency, duration and intensity. Most articles reported PE during the HD session through aerobic PE with average duration of 30 minutes, the most common being three times a week, medium to high intensity and prevalence of 12 weeks, mostly supervised by health professionals. Thus, further studies and the development of PE protocols are suggested to achieve optimal efficacy for this population and, as this is a subject still little explored, studies addressing intervention with interdialysis physical exercise are needed. In general, the evidence gathered in this systematic review suggests that PE is beneficial and safe for patients with ESRD. • Why your manuscript should be published in this journal Considering the low levels of PE as possible risk factors that affect the prognosis of patients with ESRD on hemodialysis, knowledge and prevention of these conditions are important to improve the management of the disease and the quality of life of these individuals. Furthermore, the findings of our study may help guide healthcare professionals in decision-making, recommendations, and development guidelines regarding the PA program that may help reduce the adverse risk of ESRD both the individual and the population level. • Related papers by you and/or your fellow authors (published or under consideration) Knob AM, Oliveira MTJ, Freitag AF.
