The painting reproduced on the right, called The Starry Night, was painted by Vincent Van Gogh in 1889. It has been in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York City since 1941. Observe the painting, read the quotation and discuss the following questions with a classmate.
"I dream my painting, and then I paint my dream." (Vincent Van Gogh)
What can you see in that painting?
How do you like it? Justify your answer.
Would you say Van Gogh dreamed about that starry night before he painted it? If so, what was it that impressed him most?
