Samhain was the name of the festival that inspired Halloween.
Halloween is celebrated every year on October 31st, but did you know it started a
long time ago? Halloween comes from an ancient festival called Samhain celebrated
by the Celts over 2,000 years ago in what is now Ireland and the UK. They believed
that on this day, the spirits of the dead could visit the living. To keep the spirits
happy, people would light bonfires and wear costumes made from animal skins to
scare away ghosts.
Today, Halloween is a fun holiday where people like to dress up in costumes and go
trick-or-treating. Children walk from house to house, knock on doors, and say "Trick
or Treat!" to get candy from their neighbors.
Many people carve faces into pumpkins to make jack-o'-lanterns. They scoop out the
seeds, carve a face, and put a candle inside to make it glow. Houses are often
decorated with spooky things like ghosts, skeletons, and spiders. Some people even
visit haunted houses for a fun scare!
On Halloween night, people like to tell scary stories, watch spooky movies, and play
games. It's a time to have fun with friends, dress up, and enjoy some delicious treats!

Thanksgiving is a special holiday celebrated in the United States and Canada.
It is a day to give thanks for all the good things in life, like family, friends,
and food. In the United States, Thanksgiving is celebrated on the fourth
Thursday in November, while in Canada, it is on the second Monday in
October. On Thanksgiving Day, families and friends come together for a big
meal. They usually eat turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, and pumpkin pie.
Many people also watch parades and football games on this day. Some people
volunteer to help those in need by serving food in their communities or
donating to local food banks. Thanksgiving is not only about food. It is also a
time to be grateful and think about all the things we have. This holiday
reminds everyone to be kind, help others, and appreciate what they have.
