Preposições são palavras que estabelecem a ligação entre duas orações. Elas são de grande importância, pois essa ligação permite que a frase tenha coesão, tornando a comunicação compreensível.
Em Inglês isso não é diferente. A seguir, falaremos sobre as preposições In, On e At em expressões de tempo.
AT
A preposição AT deve ser usada:
com horas e horários: at six o’clock, at midday
com noite: at night
com algumas datas: at Christmas, at Easter,
mas ON Christmas Day (pois com dias, tem que usar ON).
ON
A preposição ON deve ser usada:
com dias e datas: on Monday, on December 6th
com fim-de-semana: on the weekend
na expressão “na hora”: on time
IN
A preposição IN deve ser usada:
com os períodos do dia: in the morning / afternoon / evening,
mas use AT night
com as estações do ano: in the spring, in the fall
com as semanas, meses, anos e séculos: in the second week of February, in April, in 2009, in the 20th century
na expressão “em tempo”: in time, e “just in time”: bem na hora.
