Os “modal verbs” podem expressar déia de possibilidade, habilidade, obrigação ou permissão. Observe alguns deles. Can (capacidade / pedir algo / pedir permissão / informal): I can run for a long time. (Eu posso correr por muito tempo) Should (conselho): You should visit your mother. (Você deveria visitar sua mãe) May (pedir permissão e permitir / formal): May I go to the toilet, please? (Eu posso ir ao banheiro, por favor?) Must (obrigação): He must study English. Por isso, os verbos frasais não podem ser traduzidos literalmente, palavra por palavra. A melhor forma de aprendê-los é treinando e buscando compreendê-los como um todo.
